Description

High essential fatty acid content at 48% omega-3 and 36% omega-6

Characteristics

Has a high essential fatty acid content – 93%. 35% of that fatty acid content is linoleic acid making it about 32% of the oil. Compare this to 10% in coconut oil and 1-2% in avocado oil.

Chemistry

Sacha Inchi oil has with approximately 50% a very high content of the omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid, which makes it comparable only to flaxseed oil. Sacha Inchi oil has a very high content of Tocopherols (176–226 mg/100 g) which consists predominately of gamma-Tocopherol (50%) and delta-Tocopherol.

History

The Sacha Inchi plant has probably been used by pre-Incas and the Incas 3000years ago which is evident from the interpretation of the plant on vessels in Inca tombs.Chancas Indians and other tribal groups of the region extract oil from the seeds whichis used for the preparation of various meals.
